What animals would look like if they had eyes at the front
The BBC has collected a variety of theories from ophthalmologists and anthropologists regarding the evolution of perception and the reasons behind an animal’s strategic eye placement. Unlike humans, certain animals have:
- Eyes located on the sides of their heads
- While others have eyes that face forward
Putting survival and biological reasons aside, here are what 8 animals would potentially look like if they had eyes in front of their head.
1. Sharks usually have eyes that are placed a wide distance apart. This is what these sea creatures look like with tiny, beady eyes right above their teeth.
2, It’s hard to believe how a subtle change in eye placement can drastically change an animal’s appearance. This is what a deer looks like with eyes in front of it’s head.
3. Hares, like rabbits, are herbivores with wide set eyes. With eyes placed closer together, these jumping animals look a lot like squirrels.
4.Interestingly, this chicken’s new look gives him more of a humanely face with eyes placed closer together.
5. Most birds have wide set eyes for a greater sense of their surroundings as they fly. This is a pigeon looks like with eyes slightly above their beaks after a little photoshop.
6. Just when you thought dolphins couldn’t get any cuter…
7. Giraffe’s have bulging eyes at the sides of their heads for an all-round greater sense of perception to keep mind of the animals up above and the creatures down below.
8. Considering that animals tend to have wider and bigger mouths than humans, placing a goat’s eyes at the center of its head makes the animal look like he’s smiling!
